Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence

Academic integrity violations are not limited to cheating. They also include unauthorised citation, fabricating information, assisting others in acts of academic dishonesty, submitting a previously used work without the instructor's knowledge, and interfering with other students' academic work. Any of the actions listed above constitutes a serious academic violation and will result in disciplinary action. In addition, submitting content generated by artificial intelligence tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) as assignments, case analyses, or examination work without proper attribution is considered academic fraud. When AI tools are utilised, this must be explicitly stated in the work, specifying at which stage and in what manner the AI was used. Since the development of ethical reasoning and critical thinking — which are core learning outcomes of the nursing ethics course — requires the production of original work, excessive reliance on artificial intelligence also poses a serious risk to professional competence.
