Introduction to Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Ethics

Course Objectives

The objective of this course is to introduce first-year students to the electrical and electronics engineering discipline, the fundamental components of engineering education, engineering ethics, and modern engineering applications. The course aims to provide students with a general awareness of the core study areas, theoretical foundations, design approaches, and real-world engineering applications included in the electrical and electronics engineering curriculum. Based on the “Study–Design–Applications (SDA)” approach, the course also aims to introduce engineering thinking, introductory design culture, project awareness, presentation skills, research culture, and AI-assisted modern engineering work approaches.

Course Books / Materials / Recommended Resources

Course Textbook: There is no mandatory textbook for this course. Recommended Resources: Educational materials and ethical guidelines published by professional organizations such as IEEE, IET, and EMO, NSPE Code of Ethics resources, current engineering and technology publications, industrial platforms such as EE Times, selected technical articles, standards, engineering application examples, and current technology reports. Course Materials: Lecture notes and presentations, technical videos, engineering application examples, introductory project management documents, student presentations, AI-assisted engineering application examples, various engineering software/hardware demonstrations, and current technology reviews.

Academic Integrity and Artificial Intelligence

Full compliance with academic integrity and ethical principles is expected in this course. Plagiarism, cheating, unauthorized citation, and all other forms of unethical behavior are strictly prohibited in assignments, projects, reports, presentations, and all academic work. The use of artificial intelligence-based tools (such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, etc.) is strongly encouraged to accelerate the learning process, improve engineering awareness, support research and presentation preparation processes, analyze technical content, and enhance the quality of academic work. However, these tools should only be considered as supportive tools. Students are expected to analyze, verify, improve, and critically evaluate the content generated by AI tools and to incorporate their own interpretations, engineering perspectives, and original contributions into their work. Submitting AI-generated content directly and verbatim without original student contribution will be considered a violation of academic integrity and may be treated as plagiarism. Within the scope of project and presentation studies conducted in the course, students are expected to explain the methods, resources, and technical content they used. When deemed necessary, students may be asked to verbally defend their work.
